Dozens of students from Lexington-Richland School District Five competed and won numerous awards in this year’s University of South Carolina (USC) Regional Science & Engineering Fair held on March 19, including Junior Division—Serenity Sherrod, Tsubaki Shimamura, Mustafa Azhar, Ayaana Shaik, Hannah Beth Berley, Aishani Banerjee, Cayden Mohr, Zealand Swank, Paige Brunson, Karis Perz, Amelia Tuggy, Matthew Wang, Shaina Dashiell, Emma Parler, Preston Kunkle, Jonathan Fu, Maya Turner, Aamina Azhar, Caroline Rider, Taehoon Noh, Ella Carson, Jennifer Liu, Andy Yang, Allie Wetmore, Emily Mulalley, Tristin Thomas, De’Mas Limehouse, Hunter Majka, Joah Schaefer, Brynn Froeschner, Maciej Karwowski, Jayden Williams-Marshall, Declan Abston, Luke Reeves, Thomas Conyers, and Milan Polite.
Student Council of Irmo High School International School for the Arts has been recognized as a 2024 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC).
Patrice Green has been named principal of Carolina Springs Middle School.
Lexington-Richland School District Five has named finalists for its 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year award—Rebecca “Becca” Magni, a Piney Woods Elementary School second grade teacher; Alyssa Powers, an Oak Pointe Elementary School fifth grade teacher; and Glenna Shealy, a Reading Interventionist at Dutch Fork Elementary School.
Lexington-Richland School District Five has named finalists for its 2024-2025 Support Employee of the Year award—Holley Barfield, a receptionist and leave clerk at Chapin High School; Cissy Graham, a computer lab assistant at Dutch Fork Elementary School; and Heather Woods, a special education assistant at Piney Woods Elementary.
Elaine Lundy has been named principal at Cayce Elementary School.
Nicholas “Nick” Gillcrese has been named principal at Riverbank Elementary School.
