Mayor presents proclamations at City Council meeting



During the May 7 City Council meeting, Mayor Daniel Rickenmann presented several proclamations.

A surprise proclamation was presented for Pro­fessional Municipal Clerk’s Week, honoring City Clerk Erika D. Moore Hammond and Assistant City Clerk Levanie Summerville.

The National Police Week proclamation was pre­sented to Columbia Police Department Chief William “Skip” Holbrook in honor of the 800,000 law enforce­ment officers serving across the United States as well as the fallen heroes.

The mayor also presented the National Bike Month and Bicycle Safety Month and National Historic Preservation Month Proclamations to City Planning Department staff. National Bike Month and Bicycle Safety Month is a time for citizens to bike to work and bike for fun, fitness, or transportation.

National Historic Preservation Month is a way to promote historic places. The city’s planning staff is promoting a number of activities and events through­out the month of May that focus on the history and architecture of Columbia. The Economic Development Week proclamation was presented to Economic Development, Columbia Empowerment Zone, and Office of Business Opportu­nities staff. Economic Development Week recognizes and enhances the efforts that create vibrant communi­ties with strong economies.

The mayor presented the Drinking Water Week Proclamation. The City of Columbia joins communi­ties across America in celebrating Drinking Water Week, highlighting the importance of safe drinking water for the community and recognizing the tireless efforts of local water professionals who ensure its availability.

Senior Resources Older Americans Month was also recognized with a proclamation presented to Lourie Center Staff. Senior Resources Older Americans Month celebrates and honors older adults as valuable members of the community bringing wisdom and richness to society.

During the consent agenda portion of the meet­ing, City Council approved continued investment in wastewater collection system improvements, waste­water treatment equipment, and stormwater con­veyance.
