Loretta Vivianne Young Brockington was born March 4, 1940, in Cherokee, N. C., and passed from this life to her eternal heavenly home in February 2024 at the age of 83 years and 11 months at her home. Loretta was the beloved wife of the late South Carolina Senator, Dr. William Brockington, the love of her life. She is survived by her two daughters, Virginia “Ginger” Caroline Lee and Gray of Columbia, and Loretta Isabel Wells, of Charleston, S.C. She is also survived by her grandchildren Virginia “Ginger” Macy Lee Hicks and Jordan, Katherine Grace Lee Way and Dustin, and one great grandson, Jordan Hicks Jr., all of Columbia.

Loretta never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with everyone. Her greatest love was God, her heavenly Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. She made it her mission in life to always share her love for God with whomever she met. Many were impacted by her involvement in their lives as she pointed them to God. She had a passion for the Bible and financially gave so others could have a copy of their own.

Loretta had a passion for the Bible and writing novels, children’s books as well as painting landscapes, home decorating, and cooking. She was an entrepreneur as well. She loved the mountains of Cherokee, N. C., her birthplace, which gave her comfort. She loved her family and was very proud of its accomplishments and always spoke of the ability to prosper. Her one joy late in life was to meet her great grandson, Jordan.

Her life was one of adventure and travel, and she was always praying and seeking ways to use her God-given gifts and talents. She had two very close companions that were very dear and a comfort to her, Caleb and Joshua, her cats.

She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her, and she will never be forgotten.
