Having attained the Boy Scout rank of First Class, meeting the camping requirements, and being nominated by the members of his troop, Joseph Trenbeath has joined the Order of the Arrow.

For over 100 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA), also known as the Honor Society of Scouting, has recognized scouts and scouters (adult leaders) who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long term resident camping, and providing cheerful service to others. OA service, activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults are models of quality leadership development and programming that enrich and help to extend Scouting to America’s youth.

All candidates for The Order must first complete what is known as The Ordeal. Trenbeath completed his Ordeal at Camp Barstow the weekend of August 13–15. During the experience, candidates maintain silence, receive small amounts of food, sleep apart from other campers (no tents allowed), and work on camp improvement projects. During Trenbeath’s Ordeal, his team worked to clear roads, cut down problem trees, and move broken down boats.

Trenbeath is a member of Boy Scout Troop 3. The troop meets at Timmerman School. His Troop leaders include Scoutmaster Mike Trenbeath and assistant Scoutmasters William Creek and Steve Allen.

Trenbeath is the son of Mike and Elizabeth Trenbeath.
