The Junior League of Columbia celebrates 100 years of community service at a ceremony recently at Roy Lynch Park, with Junior League president Emily Bedenbaugh opening the event. This year the Junior League honored three partners who helped with projects vital to the Columbia area, including Prisma Health Children’s Hospital, Richland County Special Advocates, and Sistercare. For a century, the Junior League of Columbia has played a vital role impacting the Midlands and specifically improving the health and well-being of children and families in the community while advancing women’s leadership. The Junior League of Columbia, established in 1924 by Katharine Heath Manning, is committed to advancing women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. For a century, the league has remained on the forefront of social reform, identifying critical issues, and creating solutions through service in the heart of the Midlands.
