A desire to help those who need it the most—and to help those who are helping those in need—was at the core of Ginger Doughty and Bob Farnsworth’s passion that spurred the couple to begin teacher training.

The pair had a 200-hour registered yoga school training that had several military veterans and those who assist them as students, and the result was inspiring to them as they develop another, nine-month program that they call “the birth.”

“This course takes you through different layers,” said Farnsworth. “It’s a really intimate training as you learn more about yourself and how you can serve others.”

Doughty said of the eight veterans, most have gone on to help other veterans through yoga and therapy, and that inspired them to continue their training to extend that reach.

The course, which takes place one weekend a month from March 21 to November 8 will, according to the website www.beginwithinyoga.net, include the following goals—unlocking the spine physically, mentally, and emotionally; the importance of a personal practice; how to become a skilled teacher of using the science of breath; learning skills to serve the elderly, veterans, and people with disabilities; the application of chair yoga; developing intuition as a teacher; and being able to guide students into different practices.

“A strong student makes a good teacher,” said Doughty. “It helps you have empathy for students and everyone who you come in contact with.”

Farnsworth and Doughty met more than a decade ago in an Anusara yoga class, and over the years they shared a love for the transformative power of the practice. They were supportive friends and share teacher training certifications, immersions, workshops, and classes using the UPA (Universal Principle Of Alignment) while simultaneously traveling different paths.

Farnsworth began a meditative study of Yantra yoga and Tibetan Buddhism meditation. Ginger, had spent much of her career serving veterans which took her into in-depth trainings for PTSD to include iRest Yoga Nidra, Yoga Warriors International, and extensive PTSD training.

Julie Mayson, who has completed Doughty’s and Farnsworth’s training, has been brought on board to help with the training. Mayson has had a unique journey herself, going through a 15-year journey of practicing and training that brings a personal perspective to the nine-month training.

“There’s a lot of interpersonal training that goes on, and Julie will bring a new dimension to what we have to offer,” said Farnsworth.
