Jeffrey Coleman has been skilled at woodworking for many years. His youngest son, Jonathon, has picked up some tips from him. In the last six months, Jeff and Jonathon have built two canoes in their backyard shed.
On October 12, Georgetown held its annual wooden boat show. Jeff and John set up their canoes in the picturesque waterfront setting. The boat show hosted a variety of sizes and designs, including houseboats with comfortable furniture and miniature elegant paddles that sell for hundreds of dollars.
An exciting boat building contest was also held. Teams were given materials to make a boat, and were later judged on the quality and speed of their craftsmanship. Many people, some of them fellow boat builders, stopped to look at Jeff’s canoes and pose questions to him and Jonathon. There were even some prospective buyers among the mix. At the end of the day, Jeff agreed the trip had been more than satisfying.
