Climb to success

Have you ever driven by someone doing a job and thought to yourself, could I do that? For tree climber/tree trimmer, Chris Baker of Chino Tree service, the answer was yes. Baker has been climbing and trimming trees for more than 20 years.

“I think this is the tallest tree I’ve ever climbed. I think it’s around 100 feet plus tall, and I’ve climbed lots of trees.” The tree he was referring to was a pine tree in a yard on Glenwood Road his company was removing. The tree was in a precarious place between a carport and a couple fences, which made each section, branch, or limb cut by Baker even more challenging to handle.

“Each piece has to be tied off and lowered to the ground. It’s not easy, and the equipment I was using broke, snapped off, and hit me in the shoulder. It’s going to take a couple days to get all the sections down; it’s hard work.” Watching Baker do his job perched on the side of this magnificent pine tree about 100 feet in the air was fascinating and a little scary at the same time. Baker would start the chainsaw that hung from his belt, cut and cut some more, all the time checking the ropes that held the section of the tree to make sure nothing went wrong, and the section being cut would fall in the right direction. Not the job for the faint of heart and a job few people would want to do, but if you want a tree gone from your yard, it’s a job that has to be done and thanks to folks like Chris Baker and the Chino Tree Service, it will.
