Christa Williams is running for the Columbia City Council District 1 seat.
“I am a small business owner who is running for Columbia City Council District 1 because I believe that the working people who live in the city deserve to have a voice,” Williams said. “When we as working people have our backs against the wall, we need a representative who will speak up and utilize all resources available to ensure that the residents are provided the best services from the city. I believe that the revenue and tax dollars that the city earns from the state and from its residents should be reinvested back into our communities efficiently to build safer communities, safer roads, better housing opportunities, and better solutions for our unhoused population. Count on Christa Williams to fight for a city that represents everyone no matter your race, religion, nationality, or sexual orientation.”
She ran for the same position in 2021. She also ran for one of the two At-Large seats in 2023.
“My prior campaign experience has allowed me to get to know many community leaders and community members,” Williams said. “Over the years, I have become even more comfortable with public speaking and conducting interviews. I have also gained a tremendous amount of knowledge regarding government policies and the operational side of state and local government.”
This election gives Williams another opportunity to run against District 1 representative Tina Herbert, who won the seat in 2021.
Williams has experience in politics dating back to her time in high school.
“My political voice started in high school when I was voted most opinionated by my classmates,” Williams said. “I was also senior class vice president and president of the student council. As an undergraduate student at Columbia College, I was an intern at Congressman Clyburn’s office, which was my first opportunity to work for an official political office. Since my high school and college years, I have led voter registration drives, and I have run for public office at the local level, which gave me the opportunity to participate in numerous events and public forums.”
Williams has focused on many issues during her campaign—safer communities and less crime, tourism growth and safer roads, cleaner communities and less illegal dumping, better housing opportunities and less abandoned properties, and workable solutions for the unhoused population.
So far Williams’s campaign has gone as planned, and she is on target to accomplish her goals. Only days remain before the November 4 election, and for Williams, there is still much to do.
“We are currently in the final weeks leading to Election Day and as stated, my campaign goal is to meet people where they are and ensure that they know why I am running for office and that they know the tenants of my platform,” Williams said. “I am also continuing my plan to engage with community members by attending public forums and meet and greets as we get closer to Election Day.”
