While our summer looked like many others in Lexington—filled with long days in the pool, summer camps, VBS, and more hot dogs than we can count—this summer we also published a kid’s cookbook, that is not just filled with great recipe ideas but also with a message of inclusion and inspiration.
You see, our son, Wilson, is an eight-year-old with down syndrome. In his very early years we used our time together in the kitchen as our form of therapy—developing fine and gross motor skills, enhancing speech, giving opportunities for math lessons, following simple and multi-step directions, and more. Our time learning together led to us cooking together with growing followings on social media. Inspired to share our message in a more traditional format we decided to publish a kid’s cookbook this summer—filled with simple ideas for children of all abilities to get started with in the kitchen. And thus Cooking With Wilson came to life.
