Two Richland One students National Merit Scholarships



Two Dreher High School students, Caroline Cross and Thomas Robinson, are among the 36 seniors in South Carolina who have won the highly pres t igious Nat ional Merit Program scholarships financed by colleges and universities across the nation.

Caroline was awarded a scholarship by the University of Cincinnati to pur sue a degree in mus ic. Her clas smate Thomas, whose career interests are in the field of psychology, was awarded a scholarship by the University of South Carolina.

Colleges and universities select scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. The awards provide $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four year s of undergraduate study.

There are three types of awards : Nat ional Merit $2,500 scholar- ships that are s ingle– payment awards, corporate– sponsored Mer i t/ Achievement awards that may be renewable for up to four year s of undergraduate study or one–t ime awards , and college–sponsored Merit Scholarship awards that are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.
