Two Richland One high school students have been selected to attend the 2025 HOSA International Leadership Conference. The conference will be held June 18-21 in Nashville, Tennessee.

HOSA is a global student-led organization whose mission is to empower future health professionals to become “leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience.”

Eau Claire High School junior Samoria Harley and Dreher High School junior Ja’Mareya Sanders placed in the top five in the job-seeking skills competition during the 2025 South Carolina State Leadership Conference, qualifying them for the international conference.

Samoria and Ja’Mareya are health science pathway students at Heyward Career and Technology Center working on their CNA (certified nursing assistant) certifications.

Ja’Mareya says she was born with a hole in her heart, which prevents her from playing sports or doing certain physical activities. She wants to be a pediatrician and says she’d be able to relate to her patients.

“I experienced a lot of health issues when I was a child. Being in health care gives me the strength to want to help people. I understand where people are coming from,” Ja’Mareya said.

Samoria says she wants to go into health care because she enjoys seeing people feel better about themselves. She says both her parents and one of her younger brothers are experiencing health issues.

“If I’m the one in my family doing something in health care, I’ll be able to help them with any health issues they have,” Samoria said.

A total of 16 students from the health science and sports medicine pathways, including Samoria and Ja’Mareya, advanced to the final round during the state leadership conference.
