Two Richland One high school seniors have been named 2025 South Carolina Teaching Fellows.

The Teaching Fellows program’s goal is to recruit high school seniors into the teaching profession and help them develop leadership qualities.

Each year, the program provides fellowships for up to 230 high school seniors who have exhibited high academic achievement, a history of service to their school and community, and a desire to teach in South Carolina.

Lower Richland High School senior Nathaniel Alford and A.C. Flora High School senior Nicholas Beitz will receive up to $24,000 (up to $6,000 a year for four years) in fellowship funds while they complete their college degrees leading to their initial teacher certifications.

Nathaniel will be studying secondary education with a concentration in English at the College of Charleston.

Nicholas will be studying secondary education with a concentration in mathematics at the University of South Carolina.
