Trenholm Road United Methodist Church (TRUMC) has announced an expanded effort to support families experiencing food insecurity in Richland County by becoming a drop-off location for Harvest Hope Food Bank and by calling for support to match a $10,000 donation by the TRUMC Foundation.
Building on significant giving during the fall and increased awareness raised during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 16– 22), the church has officially become a community drop-off location for nonperishable food donations benefiting Harvest Hope Food Bank and local food pantries.
This expansion comes at a time when the need across the Midlands continues to rise.
According to the South Carolina Department of Social Services, more than 23,000 households and nearly 50,000 individuals, with over 40 percent of them being children, rely on SNAP benefits in Richland County. Recent disruptions and suspensions of support have intensified the strain on many families, prompting TRUMC to respond in new and meaningful ways.
Over the past several months, TRUMC members have contributed direct financial support to Harvest Hope Food Bank, along with steady food donations. In addition, the church’s text-to-give platform now includes a designation specifically for Harvest Hope, making financial support easier than ever for members.
The TRUMC Foundation has also committed $10,000 to support Harvest Hope and local food pantries, calling on the congregation and local community members to match the gift with monetary donations throughout the season. The church has added multiple donation stations across campus, allowing community members to drop off nonperishable food items at any time. Thanks to the coordination and support of church volunteers, collection bins are located outside in front of the church main offices as well as inside near the church office doors, by the gym in the rear of the building, and inside the TRUMC Preschool.
As the congregation continues to celebrate a season of gratitude, TRUMC reaffirms its commitment to serving families throughout the Midlands and strengthening partnerships with organizations like Harvest Hope. These efforts reflect TRUMC’s ongoing mission to meet urgent needs, support stability for vulnerable families, and embody Christ’s love through tangible action.
