Corbett Glick threw for 391 yards and three touchdowns and ran for three more scores as the visiting Hammond Skyhawks took down the Cardinal Newman Cardinals 56-21 at St. Sebastian Stadium Friday, September 22.

Glick got Hammond (5-0, 4-0) off to a quick start by hitting Jordan Burch for a 26-yard touchdown just five plays into the game.

On Cardinal Newman’s third play on offense, quarterback TJ Wise fumbled, and Josh Lipsitz recovered, giving Hammond great field position at the Cardinal 32.

The Cardinals were able to force a turnover when A.J. DePalma came up with an interception and returned it to the Cardinal Newman nine-yard line.

The Cardinals (2-4, 0- 4) then had a big gain when Wise hit DePalma in the middle of the field; DePalma raced into Hammond territory for a 50-yard gain. The drive stalled, and Dima Daley’s punt pinned the Skyhawks at their own 10- yard line.

Michael Schraibman ran for a 49-yard gain on the first play of the drive, and Glick finished off the five-play drive with a one-yard plunge to give the Skyhawks a 14-0 lead.

Following another Cardinal punt, Glick led a six-play drive, capped off by a 12-yard pass to Lucas Prickett, who was wide open in the back of the end zone.

On the ensuing drive, Cardinal Newman got on the board when Wise hit Patrick Reedy down the middle, and Reedy outraced the Skyhawk defense to the end zone for a 79- yard touchdown. After one quarter, Hammond led 21- 7.

Hammond’s next possession looked to be a three-and-out, but a running into the kicker penalty on 4th-and-3 gave the Skyhawks a renewed possession, and Glick scampered in from six yards out to finish the drive.

Cardinal Newman marched down the field and got to the Skyhawk 11- yard line but was denied a score when Wise was stopped just short of the line to gain on fourth down.

Hammond, however, rebounded quickly, as Glick took the Skyhawks down the field in seven plays, finishing the drive with a 16- yard touchdown run.

Cardinal Newman tried to move the ball into field goal position, but Saul Diaz intercepted a pass with just over 10 seconds remaining. Glick then hit Prickett for a 57-yard touchdown on the next play to take Hammond into the half ahead 42-14.

In the third quarter, Glick hit Andre Wilson on a short route. Wilson eluded Cardinal tacklers and scurried down the sideline for a 58-yard score and a 49-14 lead after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, Wilson took a hand-off and went 60 yards down the field for Hammond’s final score.

Wise hit Reedy on Cardinal Newman’s final offensive play for 50 yards and a touchdown to complete the scoring.

Wilson caught six passes for 122 yards and a score, in addition to his 60- yard run. Prickett caught seven balls for 143 yards and two scores. Lake Barrett was 8-for-8 on extra point attempts.
