Gerry Lynn Hall announced two events to the residents of the Shandon Neighborhood Association on May 11, to promote bike riding in Columbia. The Ride of Silence will be held Wednesday May 19 beginning at 7 p.m. at 2020 Hampton Street to recognize those who have been injured or killed while riding a bike.
National Bike to Work day is May 21, and from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. the Bike Columbia Task Force and the Palmetto Cycling Coalition will be serving breakfast at the Five Points Cycle Center.
With summer fast approaching it is time to sign up for summer camps. Rhonda Baumgardner, director of Sims Park, said Sims Park will be holding a summer camp from June 1 to August 13, Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for ages six to 12. Activities include games, sports, arts and crafts, and field trips. Lunch and snacks are provided and the cost is $45 per week.
