The North Lake Sertoma Club has announced Fresh Start Ministries is the recipient of a $1,500 grant from Sertoma, Inc., a national service organization. The Sertoma Club Grant Program was established to help Sertoma Clubs expand their support for local nonprofit programs and organizations.
Fresh Start Ministries is a program of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, which is located in the Waverly neighborhood of Columbia. The mission of Fresh Start Ministries is to offer the homeless and people living in poverty a fresh start by helping them transition from hardship to sustainable living. This is accomplished through the provision of laundry and shower services, food and meals, clothing, and financial support to help with rent and utilities.
North Lake Sertoma Club is one of several Sertoma clubs in the Columbia area affiliated with Sertoma, Inc. The name Sertoma comes from the words SERvice TO MAnkind and the national focus of the organization is on hearing health.
North Lake conducts fund raising projects throughout the year to send children with speech and hearing problems to summer camp and for other local needs.
The Sertoma Clubs in South Carolina provide a camping experience for 240 kids over a six-week period at Camp Sertoma of S.C. located in the upstate at the Clemson University Outdoor Laboratory.
