Salvation Army of the Midlands helping the most vulnerable

Every Sunday The Salvation Army of the Midlands delivers meals, supplies, hygiene items, spiritual care packages, and books to seniors, individuals, families, and children who attend The Salvation Army programs.

“We have already delivered 901 meals, supplies, and spiritual care packages helping families to be prepared for the upcoming weeks,” says Major Henry Morris. “Parents have called me with their concerns about providing three meals a day because they had depended on their children eating at school. Since school is suspended until April 30, we are committed to meeting needs in His name. No one should have to go without basic meals and supplies.”

In addition, Cocky’s Reading Express program through UofSC donated books to The Salvation army to deliver to the students who attend the Salvation Army’s after-school reading program, Leveraging Literacy. The Salvation Army designed a special book repository box for each student. The box includes several new books full of adventure, school supplies, and a surprise gift.

“We want to encourage the students to continue to develop a love for reading while they are homebound until April 30,” says Major Benita Morris. “The children have made progress in our program, and we want to support them while they are learning from home.”
