The South Carolina State Library announced a partnership with three new online resources for patrons. The three electronic resources include The Wall Street Journal, HeritageHub, and Candid Foundation Directory and GuideStar, providing access to free news articles, directories, and more. Patrons must have a South Carolina State Library card to access the online resources.
The Wall Street Journal, a renowned global newspaper, provides information about business, financial, world, and political news. However, it also includes paywalls that restrict access to users who have paid to subscribe to the website. Through the South Carolina State Library’s partnership with The Wall Street Journal, patrons can access the entire Wall Street Journal website for free without paywalls. Once users obtain a State Library card and create a personal account, the Wall Street Journal can be accessed remotely on a mobile phone or computer. Patrons can enjoy a four-year archive of e-replica of the daily paper, newsletters, videos, podcasts, and interviews.
HeritageHub, an online premier collection of U.S. obituaries and death notices, provides information about family history from 1704 to the present. The State Library’s new partnership with HeritageHub allows users to easily identify relatives and discover new details about family members and ancestors. It also provides extensive coverage across all 50 states, including access to hundreds of years of obituaries and death notices from thousands of newspapers and funeral homes, rare content from the mid-1900s, and original obituary images. HeritageHub is available for all South Carolina State Library cardholders and can be accessed remotely from anywhere.
Candid is a nonprofit organization that supports other nonprofits serving communities and provides essential tools, including Foundation Directory and GuideStar. Nonprofits and individuals seeking funding, scholarships, or fellowships can use the Foundation Directory to find and connect with funders, while GuideStar allows library patrons to research local nonprofits. The Foundation Directory lists over 300,000 grant makers and funders for nonprofits. Users can search by location, subject, and grant type. It also includes listings of scholarships and fellowships for individuals. GuideStar features nearly 2 million nonprofit organizations in the U.S., which can be filtered by services, location, and subject. Candid Foundation Directory and GuideStar can only be accessed at the State Library or local public libraries.
