Richland Two names executive director of student services

Richland School District Two has announced the appointment of Matt Sherman as its new executive director of student services. Sherman currently serves as principal of Blythewood High School and brings a distinguished record of educational leadership, community engagement, and student-centered service to his new role.

As executive director of student services, Sherman will be responsible for a wide range of support for students, including the registrar’s office, Family Intervention Services, Student Services, District Athletics, Health Services, and Social Work Services. Guided by the district’s Core Values of Belonging, Learning, Continuous Improvement, and Joy, he will work collaboratively with administrators and support staff to ensure every child in the district has access to the resources, programs, and opportunities they need to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. His leadership will help create the sparks that ignite student success and well-being across Richland Two.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed and thrive,” Sherman said. “I look forward to collaborating with students, families, and educators to build on our district’s tradition of excellence and to continue creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment where every student can reach his or her fullest potential.”

Sherman’s selection follows a remarkable year of honors and recognition. He was named the 2025 Secondary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA). The award recognizes his leadership and cultivation of community that upholds a tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and student engagement. The South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association named Sherman the (SCAAA) 2025 5A Principal of the Year, highlighting his willingness to “Go Above and Beyond” in support of students and athletic programs, emphasizing his pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and supportive school climate. Finally, the South Carolina Army National Guard named Sherman the 2024-2025 South Carolina Army National Guard Principal of the Year for his unwavering commitment to excellence, leadership, and his extraordinary support for the South Carolina Army National Guard and its mission.

Sherman’s impact extends beyond the walls of Blythewood High School. With 24 years of service to Richland School District Two and six years as principal of Blythewood High School, Sherman has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication and vision.

Sherman earned a bachelor of science in education from Presbyterian College and a master of educational administration from the University of South Carolina. He holds certifications in both elementary and secondary administration and achieved National Board Certification in 2005.
