When 17–year–old Sara King remembers her days at Crayton Middle School, a different image comes to mind than the one now seen by current students. “I played soccer on the field with my friends”, she says. “You couldn’t even think about playing soccer there now.”

Indeed, one could not for what used to be an athletic field is being turned into cement sidewalks and school buildings. The construction began during the 2004–2005 school year and should be completed by next school year.

According to principal Virginia Lacy, the altered school will be a “grand place to learn.”

Remodeling schools seems to be a recent trend. AC Flora is also undergoing construction at the moment. Dreher High School will soon be completely renovated and Brennen and Satchel Ford elementary schools were both remodeled within the last six years.
