Richland One receives “low risk” assessment score from SCDE

Richland One has received a top-tier risk assessment score from the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) for the 2023- 2024 fiscal year.

SCDE annually assesses the risk of its subrecipients of federal funds. Each subrecipient is assigned a risk score. On a scale from 9 to 65 (with 9 being the lowest score), Richland One’s overall risk score is 10, which is considered low risk, according to SCDE.

The risk score is based upon overall financial and programmatic performance as demonstrated through the following 10 criteria:

•Required reporting
•Turnover of key personnel
•Programmatic compliance
•Fiscal compliance
•Performance
•Frequency and need of technical assistance
•Financial stability
•Quality of management systems
•Timeliness of annual financial audit submission
•Other material factors (accreditation, confirmed cheating/test security violations, state program violations, current sam.gov registration, other SCDE audits)

“Our low risk score is reflective of the work done every day by staff in our financial services department and the entire Richland One team. We are committed to being fiscally responsible and efficient as we continue to improve educational outcomes and expand options and opportunities for our students,” said Richland One Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon.

Richland One also recently received national and international honors for financial reporting and accounting excellence for the 37th consecutive year.
