Three Richland One band programs have been named among the top band programs in South Carolina. Hand Middle School, A.C. Flora High School, and Dreher High School were awarded the Outstanding Performance Award from the South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA) for the 2024-2025 school year.

The award is the most prestigious that SCBDA gives each year to South Carolina band programs.

To receive the award, band programs must perform at a very high level in various SCBDA events including State Marching Band Championships, All-State Band, Region Band, Jazz Performance Assessment, Concert Performance Assessment, and Solo and Ensemble Performance Assessment. They must earn enough points from each of these events to receive the award.

Hand had one student in the SCBDA’s Junior All-State Band and seven students in the Region III Junior Honor Bands. Hand’s Concert Band earned a Superior rating at the 2025 SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment. Five soloists and nine ensembles earned Superior ratings at the 2025 SCBDA Solo and Ensemble Performance Assessment, and one soloist earned an Excellent rating.
