Richland County Council approves new county district maps



Richland County Council met February 8. All County Council members were present: Chair Overture Walker (District Eight), Vice Chair Jesica Mackey (District Nine), Council Member Bill Malinowski (District One), Council Member Derrek Pugh (District Two), Council Member Yvonne McBride (District Three), Council Member Paul Livingston (District Four), Council Member Allison Terracio (District Five), Council Member Joe Walker III (District Six), Council Member Gretchen Barron (District Seven), Council Member Cheryl English (District Ten), and Council Member Chakisse Newton (District 11).

A proclamation recognizing Judge Mildred Weathers McDuffie was approved by unanimous vote of the Richland County Council.

The following consent items were approved by the council:

•Richland County Conservation Commission Cabin Branch property purchase

•RCSD Crisis Intervention team grant

•Department of Public Works, stormwater management, street sweeper procurement

•Township Auditorium theatrical rigging installation Project

•Vehicle leasing negotiations

•Department of Public Works, solid waste and recycling division, Area 1 Collections Agreement Amendment

•Department of Public Works, solid waste and recycling division, Area 3 Collections Agreement Amendment

•Department of Public Works, solid waste and recycling division, Area 6 Collections Agreement Amendment

Council approved the new Richland County district boundaries produced by the redistricting process. An ordinance establishing new electoral districts for the election of members of Richland County Council pursuant to the United States Census of 2020 and in compliance with Section 4-9-90 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, 1976, as amended was approved by unanimous vote.

The following Hospitality Tax Allocations were approved by the council:

•FY 22 District 8 Hospitality Tax Allocations:

Columbia Music Festival Association— $2,500

SERCO 2022 Juneteenth Celebration— $2,000

Cola Jazz Foundation— Jazzfest—$2,500

•FY 22 District 7 Hospitality Tax Allocations:

Juneteenth Freedom Festival 2022—$20,000

SERCO Juneteenth Festival 2022—$4,000

Cakie Scholarship Banquet—$2,000

HUSH NO MORE Run Walk—$5,000

2022 SC Re-Entry Conference—$3,500

Midlands Heart Walk—$7,000

•FY 22 District 4 Hospitality Tax Allocations:

Columbia Museum of Art—$5,000

Auntie Karen Foundation—$ 5,000

SC Juneteenth Freedom Festival—$5,000

South East Rural Community Outreach (SERCO)—$4,000
