Richland County approves first reading of FY 2026 budget



Richland County Council met May 6. All council members were present.

Council approved and presented the following:

•A resolution recognizing the Office of Small Business Opportunity;

•A resolution honoring May 4-10, 2025, as National Correctional Officers Week;

•A proclamation recognizing the Blythewood High School Girls Basketball Team as 5A Division 1 2025 State Champions;

•A proclamation recognizing the W.J. Keenan High School Boys Basketball Team as 2025 AAA State Champions; and

•A proclamation designating May as National Tennis Month.

Council Administrator Leonardo Brown introduced two new department directors for Richland County Government. Brittany N. Hammond has been hired to serve as the director of the Office Budget & Strategic Performance. Eric Williams has been hired to serve as the director of Operational Services.

Richland County Council approved the first reading of the FY 2026 budget by unanimous vote. Richland County Clerk of Council announced the schedule for the FY 2026 Budget Work Sessions. All meetings will be held in Council Chambers.

May 8—Budget Work Session on Enterprise Fund and Millage Agencies (3–5 p.m.)

May 13—Budget Work Session on the General Fund (3–5 p.m.)

May 15—Budget Work Session on Grants and Special Revenue (3–5 p.m.)

Input from the public will be heard May 22 at the Budget Public Hearing. June 3 will be the second reading of the budget, and June 17 will be the third reading of the budget.
