Quirky Crimes in the Capital City

Forest Acres

Forest Drive: Police were called to a grocery store at noon Wednesday after a man ran away with almost $100 worth of beer, meat, and seafood. When the officers arrived, the store manager told them a “man in his 40s” was at the self-checkout register but when it alerted he was buying alcohol, they had to check his ID. The man said he left his wallet in the car so the clerk checking the ID agreed to wait for him to go get it. When the clerk turned away, the man grabbed the food and beer and ran out of the store without paying. Several store employees followed him and got his car description and tag number, which was given to the police. The manager said the store was going to give the police the surveillance footage as well and would have the entire incident recorded. The store manager told the officers he wanted to prosecute when the man was identified.

Forest Drive: The manager of a carwash called police at 6 p.m. Wednesday after a dissatisfied customer became belligerent because he “didn’t like” his car wash. The manager of the carwash told the responding officers the man was a previous customer and “he always had a problem.” On Wednesday when his truck came through the wash the man didn’t “like” the way it looked. “He became very argumentative and loud” with the employees drying the vehicle the manager said. When the manager went over to see what was wrong, he said the man “got in his face” as well. The police arrived while this was going on and the manager told them the man had “acted like this” before on previous visits. The manager wanted the man trespassed from the premises so the officers entered him into the file and told him he wasn’t allowed to ever come back or he could be arrested. The man said he understood and left without further incident.
