PalmettoPride’s inaugural SC Sweep removes 160,000+ pounds of trash statewide

PalmettoPride, South Carolina’s anti-litter organization, concluded its inaugural SC Sweep campaign in early May. The statewide initiative encouraged citizens, along with PalmettoPride and its partners, to work together in preserving the natural beauty of South Carolina by picking up litter all across the state.

In its first year, PalmettoPride’s SC Sweep campaign led to:

•1,948 volunteers
•4140.08 volunteer hours
•$144,033 in cost abatement
•163,415 pounds of trash removal
•4,669 bags of trash

“We are incredibly proud of the dedication and determination shown by our volunteers during the SC Sweep campaign,” says Sarah Lyles, executive director of PalmettoPride. “Their commitment to keeping South Carolina beautiful reflects the true spirit of our state’s citizens and the love they have for their local communities.”

The SC Sweep campaign is just one of many activations for the organization. PalmettoPride encourages everyone to stay involved year-round by picking up trash, recycling when possible, adopting a space to keep clean, and educating their friends about the impact of litter in their communities.
