Palmetto Health recognizes Richland Northeast High School for excellence

Palmet to Health recently recognized Richland Northeast High School as the 2018 Teen Talk School of the Year. This award honors a school for its excellence in supporting the teen program and the students who participate.

Palmetto Health’s Teen Talk is a 29- week youth development program for middle and high school students in five Midlands school districts. Students meet during lunch to discuss youth-related topics such as self-esteem, values, decision-making, communication skills, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and responsibility.

Students who completed the program reported feeling more confident in themselves and their ability to talk with a trusted adult about sensitive topics.

School guidance counselors coordinate with Palmetto Health community advocates who teach and lead each discussion.

“We’ve been providing Teen Talk in schools for more than a decade,” said Talarria Jackson, program director at Palmetto Health. “These programs are changing the lives of students by helping them avoid risky behaviors and making healthy decisions.”

Richland Northeast High School is one of 34 schools that partner with Palmetto Health for the Teen Talk program. More information about Teen Talk can be found at PalmettoHealth.org/CommunityHealth.
