The memory will live again when the Broadway Bound Vista Theatre Project (BBVTP) presents Cats, one of the biggest hits in theatrical history, August 1–4 in the Cardinal Newman School Performing Arts Center.
Composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, this record-breaking musical spectacular has captivated audiences in over 30 countries and 15 languages.
Opening in London’s West End in 1981, Cats debuted on Broadway in 1982, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and running for 7,485 performances and 18 years. The original Broadway production closed on September 10, 2000, and is currently the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history. Cats returned to Broadway in 2016, running for 593 performances and playing its final performance on December 30, 2017, with Columbia native ( and Broadway Bound alum) Mackenzie Warren in the final cast as Bombalurina. The first-ever, liveaction feature film adaptation of Cats will premiere in theaters across the nation December 20.
The BBVTP’s cast of Jellicle Cats includes Tracy Steele as Munkustrap, Bobby Craft as Old Deuteronomy, Lanny Spires as Rum Tum Tugger, Stephanie Villamizar as Grizabella, Leighton Mount-Rossi as Jennyanydots, Merritt Horan as Mistoffelees, Heather Hinson as Jellylorum, Ed Davis as Gus the Theatre Cat, Romell Dash as Skimbleshanks, Brianna Taylor as Bombalurina, Mattie Mount as Demeter, Sydney Davis and Olivia Timmerman as Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer,
Matt Wright as Macavity, and Kat Blanchard as Victoria
Cats is directed and choreographed by Dedra Daniels Mount, with musical direction by Michael Simmons. Set design is by Mike Horan, with costumes by Nichole Timmerman and Dianne Palmer-Quay.
A silent auction of items for cat lovers of all ages will be held throughout the run of the show as a fundraiser for the Broadway Bound Vista Theatre Project, a nonprofit community-based musical and dramatic performing arts organization created to present quality family entertainment and to provide opportunities for children and adults to develop talents in all aspects of theatre arts.
