Richland Northeast’s Jordan Gore sets up a return against Spring Valley.
The Richland Northeast Cavaliers lost the first game but stormed back to win the final three games in a 3-1 (15-25, 29-27, 25- 23, 25-20) victory over the Spring Valley Vikings in a cross-district volleyball rivalry September 5.
In the first game, Spring Valley took the lead at 3-2 as Ciasia Rivera began a three-point run from the service line, and the Vikings would not be seriously challenged in cruising to the 10- point win.
In the second game, Jada Goodwin came to the service line for Northeast with the score at 1-1 and reeled off three points to give the Cavs a 4-1 lead. The Vikings caught the visitors at 21-21 when Maya Wright earned three points from the service line. Northeast lost service leading 24-23, and neither team could earn more than a point from service. A kill shot from the Vikings’ Chandler Murria gave Spring Valley a 27-26 lead. The Vikings came up short on a return of service, and the Cavaliers’ Kayla Jeffers earned two points from the line to give Northeast the win.

Some solid service work from Rivera and Aneisa Williams gave the Vikings an early 11-4 lead in the third game. The Cavaliers had a 10-3 run to pull to a 14-14 tie, capped by a kill each from Andrena Wise and Logan McMullin. The Vikings pulled ahead 21-17 before the Cavaliers fought back to a 23-22 deficit. Northeast got a kill shot, a poor return on serve from Spring Valley, and another kill shot to get the last three points for the victory.
Spring Valley jumped to an 11-7 lead in the fourth game before a kill from McMullin tied the contest at 13-13. Estefania Fuentes gave the Cavaliers three points from service, Wise added two more, and a tap score from Jordan Gore gave the Cavaliers a 21-16 lead. Northeast netted a serve and got the point back on a kill from Bonnie Thompson to return to a five-point margin that would win the game and the match.
