A new statewide pilot program is providing free, on-demand continuing education to emergency medical services (EMS) professionals through a grant funded partnership between the South Carolina EMS Association (SCEMSA), the South Carolina Healthcare Coalition (HCC), and Leeward Solutions.
The South Carolina EMS Association Continuing Education Support Pilot Program launched July 1 through a grant funded partnership focused on expanding access to high quality training for EMS providers. It offers SCEMSA member agencies no-cost access to the Prodigy EMS Education Platform, a nationally recognized training system designed to support certification renewal and professional development.
EMS providers are required to complete a set number of continuing education hours every two years in order to maintain national certification and state credentials. While some agencies offer in-house education, many small or rural services do not have the staffing, funding or infrastructure to consistently support that training.
As a result, EMS professionals often must find continuing education on their own time and at their own expense. Some travel long distances. Others pay out of pocket for access to online courses or in-person instruction, creating additional challenges for providers already balancing demanding work schedules.
This program was developed to close that gap. By offering free access to a nationally accredited education platform, it supports agency sustainability and relieves the financial and logistical burden often placed on individual EMS professionals.
Approved agencies will receive:
•Access to Prodigy EMS for all actively credentialed employees through July 1, 2027,
•Assignable coursework through each agency’s training officer,
•High-quality, on-demand content for certification and skill advancement.
To qualify, agencies must:
•Be SCEMSA members in good standing,
•Not offer an internal continuing education program or operate one that places a significant burden on staff.
