Shelvie Elaine Brantley of Columbia, South Carolina and Robert Eric Hart, junior of Hickory, North Carolina were married September 7, 2019, at Shandon United Methodist Church. The Reverend Doctor Ronald Ray Robinson officiated the 6 o’clock ceremony. A reception followed at the bride’s home.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Edward Brantley of Columbia. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Shelvie Burnside Belser and the late Mr. Guy Matthews Tarrant Jr., The Honorable and Mrs. Robert Henry Burnside, and Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Elie Brantley of Columbia. The bride is pursuing a graduate degree in English Literature at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.

The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Eric Hart of Hickory, North Carolina. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Watts Hill Sr., and Dr. and Mrs. Robert William Hart III of Hickory, North Carolina. The groom is pursuing a graduate degree in International Relations at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Kathleen Elizabeth Brantley and matron of honor was the bride’s cousin Brooks Burnside Backman. Bridesmaids were the groom’s sisters, Rebecca Anne Hart and Abigail Gibson Hart, Grace Hanna Blackstone, Savannah Grace Carter, Mary Clyde Culbreath, Grace Margaret Grantland, Catherine Hunter Griffin, Avery Robin Jucksch, Nicole Lynn Kolis, and Mary Elizabeth Yandle. The junior bridesmaids were Julia Adams Brantley and Margaret Myers Brantley, chimer of the hour was Kathleen Loving Lane, flower girls were Dorothy RoseMarie Bain and Paisley Sims Lane, and the bride’s flower page was Marin Day Brantley, all cousins of the bride. Honorary bridesmaids were Neeley Rentz Lane, Elizabeth Rentz Bain, Mary Rentz Gwinn, and Ashley Rentz Jackson, cousins of the bride.

Dr. Robert Eric Hart served as his son’s best man. Groomsmen were the groom’s brother-inlaw, Mark Joseph Novosel; the bride’s brother, Edward Ashley Brantley; the groom’s cousin, Luke Trapier Hart; and Linwood Patterson Britton IV, Jordan Price Drake, Andrew William Grieves, Madison Whitener Jones, Weston Burdine Nalley, Baker VanBure Patton, Thomas Boyd Richardson Jr., and John William Cox, in abstensia. The groom’s flower page was Joseph Eli Brantley, cousin of the bride. The ushers were the bride’s cousin, Robert Culbreth Burnside; the groom’s cousin Wylie Gibson Hutchison; Thomas Hedrick Garrison; and Richard Myers Stubbs.

Readings were read by the bride’s grandfather, Dr. Joseph Eli Brantley and Randy Nelson Sigmon. Guests were greeted by Elizabeth DuBard Grantland. Acolytes were Georgia Gressette Berry and Rachel Sue McCutchen and the Crucifer was Sara Rebecca Foy. Music was provided Debbie Bauer, organist of Shandon United Methodist Church, and Glen Adams, bapgpipes. The bride and groom will reside in Glasgow, Scotland.
