Elizabeth Brooks Babson and William Keller Kissam Jr. were united in marriage on May 11, 2024 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. The Reverend Canon James P. Hartley officiated the 6 p.m. double ring ceremony.
Organist William Douglas provided music for the ceremony. A reception followed at 701 Whaley.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Allen Babson of Columbia. She is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. Cantey Haile Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ogden S. Babson of Columbia. Brooks is a graduate of Hammond School and Clemson University where she graduated cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in human nutrition and dietetics. She earned a master’s degree from Winthrop University in human nutrition and is currently employed by Prisma Health as a neonatal clinical dietitian.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Keller Kissam of Lexington. He is the grandson of Dr. Edward Darrell Hopkins and the late Mrs. Leila Manning Hopkins of Columbia and Mr. and Mrs. Luther Clarence Kissam III of Cameron. He is a graduate of Clemson University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural mechanization and business. He is employed by Hay Hill Services.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father and wore a gown of mikado silk designed by Jodi Moylan. The skirt extended into a chapel train with a bow of mikado silk. The veil of bridal illusion was trimmed with lace from a wedding gown made by the bride’s great, great aunt and worn by the mother of the bride’s godmother, the bride’s grandmother, the bride’s mother, and her uncle’s wife.
The bride’s sister-in-law, Carolina Summers Babson, served as the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Anne Elliott Kissam, Emily Senn Sligh, Ellen Kathryn Haile, Carman Franklin Young, and Elizabeth Turner Holstein.
The groom’s father, William Keller Kissam, served as the best man. Groomsmen were John Allen Babson Jr., David Eric Baxley Jr., Charles Benjamin Holbrook, Hunter Jackson Young, and Milledge Jeffries Holstein III.
Senior ushers were Andrew Graham Walker Jr., Nicholas Daniel Adams, Alexander Franklin Adams, Andrew Byron Kinney, and William Ballard Kinney.
The flowers on the altar were given to the glory of God in loving memory of Margaret Stevens Babson, Ogden S. Babson, Sandra Ruth Babson, Mr. Edward Cantey Haile Sr., Elizabeth Brooks Haile, Leila Manning Hopkins, Edward Darrell Hopkins III, John Adger Manning, and Margaret Elliott Manning.
Following a honeymoon to Eau Palm Beach the couple will reside in Columbia.
