A Midlands World War II marine veteran was presented with a service medal at a surprise ceremony July 23 at Richland County Wellness Center, 306 Flora Drive. Larry Pressley is one of the first World War II “atomic veterans” and was awarded an Atomic Veterans Commemorative Service Medal. Pressley’s surprise ceremony was the result of Victoria Kelly and Karin Tanabe, who are producing an upcoming PBS documentary, Atomic Echoes: Untold Stories of World War II. Pressley will be featured in the documentary, which premieres August 1.
