The best part about cooking is eating, especially when you know how to cook. That is what students found in an all- new cooking class called “A Taste of Italy,” offered through Midlands Technical College’s Continuing Education program.
In the two- week class, students learned to perfect their Italian- cooking skills through delicious recipes for dishes such as bruschetta, risotto milanese, chicken scallopine, and fruit salad with cannoli cream.
Both weeks, students divided into groups to each make a different course of an Italian meal. After all the groups finished making their dishes, everyone sat down together to enjoy the full- course Italian meal they had prepared.
The class was taught by Chef Dan Zmroczek Jr., a graduate of Brookland- Cayce High School and Johnson & Wales University’s culinary arts program. Zmroczek also has culinary training from his service in the military and work at The Biltmore Estate. In addition to Midlands Technical College classes, Zmroczek currently teaches culinary arts to high school students in Lexington County School District One.
Chef Zmroczek will be teaching two other new MTC culinary classes in March and April 2007. “Dessert 101” will be held Tuesdays, March 6 and 13, 6- 9 pm, $69. “Comfort Food Southern Style” will be held Mondays, April 9 and 16, 6- 9 pm, $79. Course costs include all supplies. The classes will meet at The Lexington Technology Center, 2421 Augusta Highway in Lexington. Register today at mtctraining.com or by calling (803) 732-0432.
