Lee Ramon Wilson, 92, of Columbia, died on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Born on March 22, 1933, in Rutland, Vermont, he was the son of the late Earl “Roxie” D. Wilson and Marie Snyder Wilson.
Lee is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Suzette Chalmers Wilson; son, Scott B. Wilson of New Mexico and his fiancée Jennifer Ross; niece, Cheri Foy of New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Evelyn Wilson of Wisconsin; and nephew, Dan Wilson of Wisconsin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Tevington; sister, Merle Crowley; brother, Earl D. Wilson Jr.; brother-in-law, Joe Crowley; and niece, Lynn Crowley Ladabush.
Lee graduated in 1951 from Rutland High School. While attending high school he was selected to Boys State and lettered in football and basketball. He graduated with honors from Norwich University in 1955, receiving his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Lee was a member of the Chi Epsilon Engineering Honor Society and Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity. He enlisted in the US Army and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant with the Army Corps of Engineers.
Lee was a registered professional engineer in the State of Massachusetts and member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He enjoyed a prosperous career building roads and bridges throughout the United States. Lee retired in 2005 following more than 50 years of dedication to his profession. Always civic minded, Lee used some of his new-found leisure time to actively participate in delivering “Meals-on Wheels” for nearly 12 years.
He was an ASE rated private pilot who thoroughly enjoyed flying. Lee also loved to scuba dive, snow ski, and go RVing with his wife, Suzette. He and Suzette traveled to all 50 states and all 10 provinces of Canada as well as to France, Austria, the Panama Canal, Bermuda, Jamaica, and the Southwestern Virgin Islands. Lee was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a staunch advocate of “God, Grant Me the Serenity” and “I Will Try.”
Having worked around the water for most of his life, Lee was not enamored with beach trips, however, he did love family interaction with a “Sequence” board game of strategy with nieces and nephews, sponsoring tournaments with monetary prizes for the lucky winners.
Lee loved the mountains and their Georgia mountain cabin, especially during Loudsville Church camp meetings. He joined the children in “slip and slide,” laughing all the way down the soapy tarp!
