Columbia Classical Ballet is holding auditions Saturday, August 27 for children cast members.

In the 1990 movie Nutcracker Prince, Clara says, “Oh, I don’t know; I’m so confused. It’s just, well, the Land of the Dolls is where you all belong. But I want to grow up. There’s a million things I want to do: people to meet, worlds to explore. I’ve always wanted to dance in the ballet. Nutcracker, I do love you, but I can’t stay in the Land of the Dolls forever.”

This year, children can visit the Land of the Dolls and dance in the ballet.

If your children spend a lot of time fighting like toy soldiers or scrapping like rats, this is your opportunity to let them be appreciated for it. Or maybe you have a daughter with her head full of fantasies—always pretending to be in some far-away exciting place—who would love to grace the stage as Clara, the young benefactor of the mysterious Drosselmeyer.

Columbia Classical Ballet welcomes children ages three-18 to audition Saturday, August 27 for Columbia Classical Ballet’s 25th Anniversary production of the Nutcracker. Dance can be such a powerful force in a child’s life: physical fitness, mental discipline, musical and theatrical awareness, and social camaraderie.

Whether your child has had dance experience or not, this is a great way to expose them to all the excitement and energy it holds. Who knows? They may find a profession or a life-long hobby through this simple opportunity. One thing is for certain, they will have a holiday season like none before.

Columbia Classical Ballet’s artistic director Radenko Pavlovich will personally oversee the auditions, which in the past has resulted in several young children who went on to become professional ballet dancers. If your children are selected, they will be performing several times during the show’s run from December 1–4.

The auditions will be conducted at the Pavlovich Ballet School studios on 25 Forest Lake Place and are only three weeks away, so mark your calendars.

Ages 11–18 will audition from 1–2 p.m. and ages three–10 from 2–3 p.m.
