The South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (SCBA) announced the Hall of Fame Class for 2025. This year’s inductees include Reggie McLain of Keenan High School, Zeke Washington of Blythewood High School along with Darryl Nance of Wade Hampton (Greenville) High School, and Jackie Roberts of Westside High School.
The Induction Ceremony will take place Tuesday, July 29, in conjunction with the annual statewide SCACA Clinic in Greenville at The L, 211 East Broad Street Greenville. The event begins at 6:30pm. McLain has dedicated 24 years to coaching high school athletics with stops at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School for two years, Williston-Elko High School for three years, and 19 years leading the Keenan Lady Raiders to tremendous success.
McLain has a career record of 405-182. He has earned 15 region titles and advanced to the third round of the playoffs on 18 occasions. He has nine state title game appearances and six State Championships. His Keenan team made five straight appearances in State Championship games. Twenty-two (22) of his former players have moved on to play college basketball.
With all of this success, Coach McLain has been recognized for his excellence by being voted Region Coach of the Year 15 times, the S.C. High School Sports Report Coach of the year three times, and other organization’s Coach of the Year awards numerous times. He also earned the District Officials Association Coaching Award and was selected by his peers to serve as an assistant coach for the North-South All Star Game in 2016. He was chosen as the head coach of the North-South All Star game in 2023.
Coach McLain has had a huge impact in his community and was given the Key to the City in 2013 for his profound influence, and May 7 was declared Reggie McLain Day. His commitment, leadership, and legacy serve as an inspiration for that community.
Coach Washington just finished his 37th year of coaching in South Carolina. He began his basketball career in 1987 at Branchville High School at the age of 23. In his inaugural season his team won the region title, and he earned Region Coach of the year.
After a stop at Dreher High School, Washington found several mentors who greatly influenced his career such as George Glymph, Ben Trapp, Carl Williams, Vince Lowry, Tim Whipple, Bailey Harris, Timrod Gates, Steve Inabinet, Buddy Pough, and Wilson Walker.
In 1994, he took over the boys program at Fairfield Central High School, and a few years later his team won the AAA State Championship. In 1999, he joined Chester High School as the athletic director, and the following year he stepped into the role of head girls varsity coach. In 2004, Chester’s girls won the AAA State Championship, and Washington became one of only four coaches to win state championships in both boys and girls basketball.
Moving onto Lower Richland High School in 2007, his boys teams achieved great success over a five-year period. The Diamonds won 20 or more games each year, including clinching five consecutive region titles and an appearance in the Lower State Final and two Upper State Finals.
In 2012, Coach Washington moved onto Blythewood High School as the head boys coach and has been a perennial state title contender ever since. Under his leadership Blythewood and soared to historic heights by reaching the State Championship game in 2017. That was followed by another appearance in 2025.
His career record is 538-278 accompanied by 14 region titles, 28 playoffs appearances, two Upper State, two Lower State championships, and two State Championships.
For all of these accomplishments, Washington was chosen Coach of the Year 13 times, S.C. Sports Report Coach of the Year year three times. He has served as an assistant girls coach for the North-South All Star game in 2006, assistant coach for the Carolinas Class All Star Game in 2015, and later was selected as the head coach for the South Carolina team in 2022.
