Johnnie Grant, a senior at C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy, is the recipient of the 2007 Dr. John R. Stevenson Music Scholarship. The scholarship is named in honor of former Richland One superintendent and Superintendent Emeritus Dr. John R. Stevenson.

Grant is a trombonist who has played with the Keenan High Jazz Band, C.A. Johnson High Concert Band, the United House of Prayer Band, the Gene Dykes Big Band and at open mic nights around Columbia. He says his goal is to be “one of the greatest trombone players in the world.”

In the fall, Grant plans to attend Allen University or Claflin University to major in music.
