Jane Ann Isley Thesing

Jane Ann Isley Thesing, 75, was born in Gary, Indiana February 17, 1947. She died April 26, 2022 due to dementia/Alzheimer’s disease complications. Her immediate family of survivors include her husband of 45 years, William B. Thesing of Columbia, South Carolina; her brother John C. Isley (Patricia) of Plymouth, Massachusetts; her daughter Amy K. Schad (Michael); and her grandson Matthew Schad (all of Richmond, Virginia). She was the daughter of the late Charles G. Isley and the late Virginia B. Isley of Crown Point, Indiana.

Jane was educated in the Crown Point, Indiana public schools; she graduated from high school as valedictorian. In 1969, she graduated from Earlham College with Phi Beta Kappa honors. She later received a master of arts degree in history and a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She also earned a master of science degree in information systems from the College of Business Administration at the University of South Carolina. She worked as a middle school teacher, a reference and circulation librarian, and for many years as a state performance auditor for the South Carolina Legislative Audit Council. She retired in 2009 and then became a volunteer adult ESL teacher for almost a decade. She loved to read, practice yoga, travel internationally, and vacation with family and friends at the beach and in the mountains. Jane was a loving wife, a steadfast mother, and a loyal friend. She was an avid cyclist, skilled pianist, and faithful servant at church. She was brilliant, curious, disciplined, compassionate, sincere, and perseverant. In her final years when afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease, she was cared for by her family, Gale Bostick, Reatha Scott, Greta Little, compassionate caregivers at the Watercrest, and various hospice personnel. The family is most grateful to them all.

A service to the Witness of the Resurrection and a celebration of Jane’s life will be held at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, S.C. 29206 at 3:00 p.m. May 14, 2022 (livestream available via flpc.org). A reception will immediately follow the service.
