Jackson Jasper Smith

 

 

Jackson Jasper Smith, 86, of Asheville, went home to be with the Lord, Friday afternoon, December 3, 2021, at Pisgah Manor in Asheville.

Born in Buncombe County, N.C. November 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Troy Weaver Smith Sr. and Annie Jackson Smith and widower of Carolyn Sensing Smith who passed away in 2008. Mr. Smith was a lifelong welder and retired from Duke Energy. He was a faithful member of Lynn First Baptist Church, where he once served as Sunday school teacher and music director. Mr. Smith was a hardworking man and enjoyed working outdoors on his farm.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jeff Smith and Kevin Smith; and one brother, Troy W. Smith Jr.

Surviving is his wife of 12 years, Shirley Brown Smith; two daughters, Pam Staples (Hugh) of Ridgeway, S.C. and Beth Lucas (Ethan) of Goode, Va.; one brother, Roy Smith (Sue) of Candler, N.C.; three sisters, Claudine Reese ( Jimmy) of Candler, Peggy Warren of Leicester, N.C.; and Debbie Brittain (Gene) of Mills River, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Jill Greene, Hannah Short, Caleb Edwards (Kaila), Brock Lucas, Cassidy Lucas, Kendall Lucas, and Bristol Lucas; nine great-grandchildren, Brandt Greene (Clowie), Journey Blounts, Carissa Short, Londynn Blounts, Isla Edwards, Ivy Edwards, Oakley Blounts, Zion Edwards, and Delaney Greene; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jackson Greene and Delilah Greene.

A funeral service was held at 11 a. m., Monday, December 6, 2021, in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon with Reverend Jimmy Owens officiating.

The family received friends prior to the service Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral chapel.

Burial followed at 2 p. m. at Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Candler.
