Hammond’s dynamic guard duo of Amelia Green and Ahlea Myers led the Lady Skyhawks over the visiting Cardinal Newman Lady Cardinals 36-31 in a SCISA Region I- 3A battle Tuesday, January 20.

Green pumped in a game-high 13 points, while Myers came off the bench to get 12. Trinity Johnson chipped in five, Morgan Walker had three, and Anna Felder had a basket for the Lady Skyhawks.

Hammond jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a driving layup by Johnson and a 3-pointer from Green, but the Lady Cardinals battled back to tie the contest at 5-5 with a conventional threepoint play by Madeline Schimmoeller and a jumper from Mary Emma Dayhuff.

The Lady Skyhawks took a 12-11 lead on a couple of baskets from Myers and a layup from Johnson, but Schimmoeller’s two free throws gave the Lady Cardinals a 13-12 advantage at halftime.

Dobbs started the second half with a jumper, but after that, the Lady Skyhawks outscored Cardinal Newman 12-4 to take a 24-19 lead into the final eight minutes.

The lead grew to 28-19 after a Myers floater in the lane. The Lady Cards closed the gap to 35-31 with help from Sierra Bacon’s seven late points, but that was as close as they would come.

Dayhuff and Bacon finished with seven, while Schimmoeller led the way for Cardinal Newman with nine. Dobbs added six, and Maria Cummings had two.
