Now that the Columbia Golden K Kiwanis is meeting in person, the Golden K Kiwanis Foundation is honoring the local services for children to whom the chapter made donations when the members had to meet on Zoom.

The Golden K contribution of $1,000 to The Women’s Shelter is to help pay for the shelter’s operations. For over 30 years, the Women’s Shelter has served homeless women and their children with shelter, food, clothing, medical care, and transportation. Its counseling and educational programs give parenting, budget, health, and nutrition classes. While helping women and children to reenter the community, and in reuniting children and families, the shelter temporarily houses them.

The Golden K Kiwanis is a senior chapter of the International Kiwanis Organization with the mission of “improving the world, one child and one community at a time.” The Golden K meets weekly at the Lourie Center near Maxcy Gregg Park. Its foundation, which is supported entirely by member donations, makes financial contributions to local services for children.
