Gators win their third straight Forest Acres Classic


The River Bluff Gators won their third straight Forest Acres Classic with a 12-2 win over the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes in this year’s championship game. The 2023 Forest Acres Classic wrapped up with games on April 12 and 13.

Wednesday, April 12 Miller School of
Albmarle (Va.) 15,
Airport 8

Jackson Rosales went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Miller School Mavericks (Va.) to a 15-8 win over the Airport Eagles.

Jack McMullan also had a big day for Miller going 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Patrick Rakes, Sam Yoder, and Will Townsend added an RBI and a two runs scored each with 1-for-3 performances from the plate. Dom Cafferillo finished 1-for-2 with two RBI, and Devin Christopher was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Christopher also got the win from the mound pitching five innings. He allowed four earned runs and five hits while striking out three.

Airport’s Cam Atkins went 4-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Brice Gillette was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Mavericks pounded out 11 hits to Airport’s eight. They put up four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to take a 13-3 lead. The Eagles used five pitchers and committed four errors.

Both Miller and Airport finish pool play 1-2.

Dreher 8, Hammond 7

The Dreher Blue Devils downed the Hammond Skyhawks 8-7 to finish 2-1 in pool play. Isaiah McPherson led the Blue Devils from the plate going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Micah Elliott was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Luke Bradley went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Matt Moore added a hit on three trips to the plate with a couple of RBI and a run scored. Dreher had ten hits total. Miller Peele got the win from the mound pitching six innings.

Rucker Brannon paced the Skyhawks going 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored. William Hudson was 2-for-5 with a run scored, and Jack Croft was 1-for-3 with 3 RBI. Wyatt Barrett added two RBI going 1-for-4 from the plate. He also pitched 4-1/3 innings striking out three. Hammond finished 0-3 in pool play.

Dutch Fork 11,
A.C. Flora 4

The Dutch Fork Silver Foxes bounced back from a loss to Dreher to beat A.C. Flora 11-4 and claim a spot in the championship game on Thursday. Multiple Silver Foxes had a two-hit performances including Ethan Offing who was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, Landon Kahl who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, Paul Taylor who was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Kevin Samonsky who went 2-for- 5 with two runs scored, and LJ Solimon who was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Matthew Rollinson went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Jake Rogers got the win pitching 4-1/3 innings with five strikeouts.

Evan Smith led the Falcons from the plate going 2-for-3. Cooper Revels had a hit and an RBI. A.C. Flora finished 2-1 in pool play.

Thursday, April 13 Miller School of
Albemarle (Va.) 10,
Dreher 7

In the first consolation game of the day, the Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks downed the Dreher Blue Devils 10-7. Dillon O’Connor led the Mavericks going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Dom Cafferillo and Jackson Sneathern each went 2-for-2, and multiple players contributed RBI. Will Townsend got the win pitching five innings and striking out three.

Caleb Gipson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored for Dreher. Both Isaiah McPherson and Sheldon Coffman also went 2-for-3. McPherson added an RBI and a run scored, and Coffman had two runs scored. Jacob Muir added three RBI going 1-for-2 from the plate.

A.C. Flora 7,
St. John’s (Md.) 3

The A.C. Flora Falcons bounced back from the loss to Dutch Fork to beat the St. John’s (Md.) Pioneers 7-3. Cooper Revels and Tyler Hernandez paced the Falcon offense. Revels went 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, and Hernandez was 1-for-2 with three RBI. Carew Bates added two hit on two attempts and scored once. A.C. Flora used six pitchers who combined for nine strikeouts and 0 earned runs. Ryan Harrelson got the win going 2-1/3 innings.

The Pioneers scored three runs in the top of the first, but the Falcons countered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Revels two-out hit scored Zach Snead and Bates. Revels eventually scored on a single from Rence Best. A.C. Flora added two in the second and two in the sixth to close while shutting down St. John’s.

Dutch Fork 2

The River Bluff Gators won their third straight Forest Acres Classic downing the Dutch fork Silver Foxes 12-2 in the championship game.

Weston Grant led the Gators going 2-for-2 from the plate with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. Grant also got the win from the mound pitching 4-2/3 innings allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out six. Myles Proffitt also had a day going 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Colby Reynolds finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Walker Mitchell was 2-for-4. Mitchell was named the tournament MVP. Logan Busbee added two RBI on a 1-for-2 performance from the plate. Wyatt McPherson finished with an RBI and a run scored going 1-for-2.

The Gators jumped out fast with three runs in the first inning. They added three more in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth to close out the game.

Landon Kahl led the Silver foxes going 1-for-3 from the plate with a home run, one RBI, and a run scored.

Airport 5, Hammond 0

In the final game of the tournament, the Airport Eagles beat the Hammond Skyhawks 5-0. Corbin Wright led the Eagles from the plate going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Josh Raines and Brice Gillette each went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Miller Harrelson got the win pitching four innings. He allowed three hits and no runs while striking out four.

Hammond got hits from Dylan Richardson, Jack Croft, and William Hudson.
