A. C. Flora’s Louise Vipperman is recognized for her 100th assist in the second quarter against Mid-Carolina.

The A.C. Flora Falcons scored five goals in the first three minutes en route to a 24-2 win over the Mid-Carolina Rebels Tuesday, April 22 in the first round of the 4A girls lacrosse playoffs.

“I definitely told the girls to come out right off the bat; let’s play fast paced and as a whole team,” A.C. Flora head coach Krissy Turner said. “They did that starting off with the draws and then in the transitions that helped tremendously with scoring those goals. The key was making sure we had the fast tempo at the beginning of the game, and then we can slow down towards the end if we need to.”

Louise Vipperman led the way for A.C. Flora scoring eight goals.

“She’s definitely a key player,” Turner said. “I think it’s the whole team that gives those opportunities to her to score. She has great assist opportunities. Our team looks for her to make those key plays, but she also looks at her other teammates to have those assists. That’s why she hit her 100th assist tonight.”

Ann West Griffin, Walker Mancini, and Ann Frances Truluck chipped in three goals each.

The Falcons set the tone from the opening minute when Vipperman scored her first goal to put A.C. Flora ahead 1-0.

Vipperman would score a second goal two minutes later. Griffin, Mancini, and Julia Blair Reynolds also scored as A.C. Flora took a 5-0 lead at the 9:13 mark of the first quarter.

Mid-Carolina was able to build some momentum with goals from Piper Haskett and Kiara Robinson to trim the deficit to 5-2 with 3:14 left in quarter, but that would be the last time the Rebels scored.

“I think our defense figured it out and they talked to each other,” Turner said. “I think they figured out what they needed to do as a team and as a unit. They added some pressure and made sure they were working together to ensure they were shutting down those key plays Mid-Carolina was trying to do.”

The Falcons were able to regain the momentum with a goal from Truluck to take a 6-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Truluck tacked on her second goal in the opening minute of the second quarter to extend the lead to 7-2. She would cap off her hat trick with a goal right before halftime. Vipperman, Mancini, Griffin, M.J. Wentzky, and Audrey Stroud also scored as A.C. Flora led 13-2 at halftime.

Vipperman took over in the third quarter scoring four goals in nine minutes as the Falcons widened their lead to 17-2. Sofia Edwards was able to slip one into the net, beating the buzzer, and further extending the A.C. Flora lead to 18-2 at the end of the third quarter.

Mancini, Stroud, Griffin, Vipperman, Hannah Crow, and Madilyn Jungclaus all scored in the fourth quarter to set the final score.

The Falcons improve to 8-8 on the season and advance to the second round of the playoffs where they will travel to Christ Church Friday, April 25.
