A 21-0 run for the A.C. Flora Lady Falcons from the early moments of the second quarter into the third quarter turned a three-point game into a blowout and led to a 47-24 win over the Dreher Lady Blue Devils Thursday, January 20.

“The difference was the intensity,” A.C. Flora head coach Jacob Thompson said. “We’ve been working on getting better defensively, talking and communicating. Yesterday we made them communicate the entire practice. When we are on defensively, our offense is better and better. I was really impressed with that. Terriana Gray has been scoring a lot lately. Jasmine Frierson got into it as well. We had a balanced scoring effort overall. that was big.”

Terriana Gray led all scorers with 13 for A.C. Flora. Jasmine Frierson added 12.

Imani Williams led Dreher with 12 points. Tahlia Hollis chipped in with eight.

Madison Mickens kicked off the scoring with a 3-pointer to give A.C. Flora an early lead. A layup and foul from Williams tied the score. Jaclyn Wright-Thompson answered for A.C. Flora with a bank shot, only to have Dreher’s Brianna Robinson respond with a layup. Frierson then scored on a bank shot, Gray added a free throw, and Jasmine Craft and Chasity Sessions each scored on layups as the Lady Falcons stormed ahead 12-5. Williams ended the run with a layup, and Hollis added a bucket to trim the deficit to 12-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Craft got a bucket and a free throw to push the lead to 15-9 early in the second quarter. Williams answered with a 3-pointer for Dreher to cut the deficit back to three.

Then A.C. Flora went on its big run. Frierson led the way with four free throws and two layups. Gray added two layups and three free throws. Wright-Thompson got a bank shot and two free throws, and Mickens knocked down a layup as the Lady Falcons led 36-12 early in the third quarter.

Dreher fought back getting a layup from Jumori Dingle. Williams then knocked down a pair of jumpers, and Hollis added a pair of free throws to close the gap to 36-20.

However, A.C. Flora snatched the momentum back. Gray got two buckets and a free throw, Sessions added a bank shot, and Mickens chipped in a layup as the Lady Falcons led 45-20 at the end of the third quarter.

Points were hard to come by in the fourth. Hollis scored on a bank shot and layup for Dreher, and Frierson made a layup for A.C. Flora.

“This win is huge,” Thompson said. “I know Flora and Dreher are rivals. Last year, Flora didn’t come away with the win and it kept them out of the playoffs. It’s really good to see them come out with the intensity, and it sets up next Friday against Westwood.”

A.C.Flora: Terriana Gray 13, Jasmine Frierson 12, Madison Mickens 7, Jaclyn Wright-Thompson 6, Jasmine Craft 5, and Chasity Sessions 4.

Dreher: Imani Williams 12, Tahlia Hollis 8, Jumori Dingle 2, and Brianna Robinson 2
