A.C. Flora’s Trinity Delaney scored a game-high 18 points, Terriana Gray chipped in 16, and Jaclyn Wright-Thompson added 11 as the Lady Falcons beat the Cardinal Newman Lady Cardinals 63-27 Tuesday, December 13.

“ We played really tough teams last week. Coming here is different,” A.C. Flora head coach Jacob Thompson said. “They’ve been the best of the best in SCISA for the last few years. We know the coach. He coaches half of them in AAU. We knew that he wanted to take what they did away. Trinity Delaney increased her game. I think she hit three 3-pointers tonight. Gray is relentless in her attack. She doesn’t get frustrated if she doesn’t make one. She buckles down and is confident that she’ll make the next one. When those two can go, they might be the two best in the state.”

A layup from Gray and a jumper from Delaney got A.C. Flora off to a 4-0 lead. Cardinal Newman countered with two layups from Erin Allert and a bank shot from Ayana Reyes to take a 6-4 lead. Two free throws from Delaney tied the score. Then Gray added two layups and a jumper, Delaney chipped in a bank shot, and Skylar McCray knocked down two free throws as the Lady Falcons led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter.

A.C. Flora ramped things up in the second quarter. Offensively, the Lady Falcons got two 3-pointers, a layup, and a free throw from Delaney; a bank shot and two free throws from Gray; a bucket from Wright-Thompson; and a jumper from Laura Darby to lead 33-8.

Defensively, A.C. Flora held Cardinal Newman to a layup from Zara Thompson and a free throw from Sheridan Diehl.

The Lady Falcons got an “and 1” along with a jumper from Jaclyn Wright Thompson, and Tamira Delaney added a bucket to lead 40-11 at halftime.

“ We got into it more,” Thompson said. “Our thing is our defense usually gives us energy. In the first quarter we were ok. We were matching energy, but we like to bring more than the other team. In the second quarter we created a little more. Then our girls got going. Once they get going we have a group that can go. That was it. The energy was there for us.”

The third quarter started off with a layup from A.C. Flora’s Tamira Delaney, a bank shot from Wright-Thompson, and a bucket from Jazmine McDonald-Craft to extend the lead to 46-11.

The Lady Cardinals got a 3-pointer from Thompson and a bank shot from Allert to shrink the deficit to 46-16. However, the Lady Falcons ended the quarter on a 7-2 run with a 3-pointer from Trinity Delaney and two free throws and a layup from Gray to lead 53-18.

Cardinal Newman got free throws from Reyes, Blaire Fisher, and Laila Balkman, and Fisher added a layup to shrink the deficit to 55-24 to start the fourth.

A.C. Flora got 3-pointers from Amaryah Mendez-Dorica and Eleanor Cuttino and a layup from Wright-Thompson to set the final score at 63-27.

A.C. Flora improves to 7-4.

“It’s another good road win,” Thompson said. “You go to different environments. The last time we were here we lost in overtime. That wasn’t a good feeling. Getting a road win is really good. It sets us up to finish out the non-region portion well on Friday. So we get this energy and momentum going into that.”

Cardinal Newman falls to 1-2.

A.C. Flora: Trinity Delaney 18, Terriana Gray 16, Jaclyn Wright-Thompson 11, Jazmine McDonald Craft 4, Tamira Delaney 4, Eleanor Cuttino 3, Amaryah Mendez-Dorica 3, Skylar McCray 2, and Laura Darby 2.

Cardinal Newman: Erin Allert 10, Zara Thompson 5, Ayana Reyes 4, Laila Balkman 4, Blaire Fisher 3, and Sheridan Diehl 1.
