Columbia Police Department is accepting donations for the Annual “Fan the Heat” Program. City of Columbia will operate misting stations in several of the City’s parks to help guests stay cool on days when the heat index reaches 90 degrees or higher. •MILITARY/VETERANS

The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum will participate in the tenth annual Blue Star Museums program to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel and their families this summer. The Relic Room will be offering the free admission to military personnel and up to five family members every normal day of operation this summer, 301 Gervais Street. The free admission program is available for those currently serving in the United States Military — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard as well as members of the Reserves, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and up to five family members. Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card for entrance into a participating Blue Star Museum.

Registration for the City of Columbia’s adult kickball and softball leagues is now open for adults age 18 and older. Adults can register a team for league play through Friday, August 2. The season, which begins Monday, August 19, includes 10 regular season games plus tournament play.
