In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the
founding of the American Studio Glass
Movement, the Columbia Museum of Art
showcases a special exhibition, Born from
Fire: American Studio Glass from the Collection, featuring more than 30 examples of
glass made by leaders in the movement.
Born from Fire is on view through September 16 in the Mamie and Andrew Treadway,
Jr., Gallery.

The South Carolina State Museum’s Third
Thursday Lunch Discussions begins at
noon on the third Thursday each month
through August, and are held in conjunction
with the museum’s new exhibit Abstract Art
in South Carolina: 1949-2012. Artists scheduled to appear in upcoming programs
include Katie Walker ( June 21), Paul Yanko
and Enid Williams ( July 19), and Laura
Spong and Mike Williams (Aug. 16). No additional charge for these events for museum

Saluda Shoals Foundation and Irmo
Chapin Recreation Commission invite
artists to submit applications to participate
in unearth, a celebration of naturally
inspired art, to be held October 5-7, 2012 at

“Women’s Health in Full Bloom,” will be
from 8:30 a.m.– 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at
Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St.,
ground-floor auditorium. This free event will
feature motivational speakers as well as
lunch, music, prizes and an exercise session.
Health information booths also will be available. From 8–11 a.m., those who qualify can
receive a free clinical breast exam, mammogram, and diabetes blood test. Women are

Palmetto Health Sponsors Teen Health
Summit Palmetto Health invites teens and
parents to the 2012 Palmetto Health Teen
Summit, “Dating & Waiting.” The event will
take place from 8 a.m. –3 p.m. on Friday,
June 8 at Dreher High School, 3319 Millwood
Avenue, Columbia. This free event will give
teens an opportunity to discuss a variety of
health topics and help each other understand the consequences of risky behavior,
which often increases during the summer.
Students in 6–12th grade are invited. Registration and parent/guardian permission are

The Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties and the City of Forest Acres
announce “Backstage Pass: A Performer’s
Showcase 2012.” This is a performance
showcase open to all performers 12 years of
age and older – singers, dancers, musicians,
