Dutch Fork’s Kevin Samonsky threw a complete game shutout and Jay Metts went 4-for-4 with a homerun and three RBI in a 9-0 win over the A.C. Flora Falcons in the first day of the Forest Acres Classic Monday, April 5.

Dutch Fork wasted little time getting on the board in the top of the first. Will Taylor slashed a line drive up the middle, hitting off A.C. Flora starting pitcher Grant Loggins, and careening onto the left side of the field, allowing Taylor to reach base. Metts slashed a double, and Evan Stone was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Then Cooper French hit into a fielder’s choice. However, when the throw was made to first, it sailed into right field, allowing Metts and Stone to score and French to reach third base as the Silver Foxes went ahead 2-0.

Dutch Fork continued its scoring barrage in the top of the second. Zach West was hit by a pitch and Taylor walked, giving the Silver Foxes two on, with two out. Metts slapped a double, scoring West and Taylor to increase the Dutch Fork lead to 4-0.

In the top of the fourth, Taylor drew a one out walk. He stole second and then scored on an errant throw.

In the top of the sixth Metts hit a two-out run home run to increase the lead to 7-0.

Dutch Fork finished off its scoring in the top of the seventh. Martin and Collin Shealy hit back-to-back singles. Landon Kahl brought in Martin with an RBI single. Then West sent a fly ball to the outfield, scoring Shealy for the 9-0 win.

Samonsky threw seven complete innings giving up just two hits while striking out eight batters.

Along with Metts perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBI, Kahl went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Martin went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
